Case C: Technology Company – Reorganizing for Growth

Client

An established engineering/design firm bouncing back from three difficult years needed to reorganize for long-term growth.

Situation

This formerly successful company was financially impacted by several difficult economic years after the technology bubble burst. The company president needed to reorganize his business to first return it to its former revenue and employee size. Next to grow the business it into a larger and more profitable organization.

Solution

I advised the company president to work more on his business than in it. Some of the issues we have tackled to date have been to:

  • Prioritize long-term and daily functions to become more productive
  • Delegate more of his responsibilities to key managers
  • Develop stronger leadership skills
  • Improve communication within the organization
  • Develop additional processes to make the business run more efficiently
  • Target more ideal clients
  • Become more proactive in marketing

In the coming months we will launch some of these new processes. I will work with key team members to help identify a new corporate structure. The client's goals are to double the number of employees, triple revenue, increase profitability and create a reserve account over the next three years. Also, the president wants to set up a system that will reward key employees by offering them stock in his privately-held company.

Results

The growth of the company is being managed to ensure consistent quality output.

  • Employees' roles are better defined
  • New processes such as preparing proposals and prospect management are being implemented
  • Workload delegation is improving
  • The president is changing his role in the organization
  • My client is working more productively and effectively
  • The company is getting stronger
  • The new business plan clarifies the company's markets and direction

New marketing initiatives are generating leads.
